Spatial Reasoning as Market Value
Spatial reasoning is an essential competence in a lot of branches like surveying, cartography, spatial planning and other. EU job candidates are regularly tested in verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning. But, spatial reasoning is not included in EU job candidate tasting. Among other intelligences (bodily-kinaesthetic, linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic and spatial intelligence), spatial intelligence is not recognized as the most scored intelligence. Logical-mathematical intelligence is scored the highest in the school systems and in evaluations of individuals. The problem is recognized in the U.S.A. and in the school system are introduced new educational approaches to strongly introduce spatial intelligence as well spatial thinking and spatial reasoning. Spatial reasoning as the market value considering human resources is still under development. More scientific fields are developing reasoning and there is no unified definition. But, it can be defined as the process of logical thinking in order to form a conclusion or judgment. From geoinformation point of view theoretical background of spatial thinking and reasoning is based on semantics approaches of spatial data. Car navigation device is an example of widely used spatial reasoning supporting tool. Developed spatial reasoning in the system of car navigation is essential part. But, it is not fully recognized as separate market value, and it has market value as part of the whole market product. Development of spatial reasoning is under influence of development of geospatial tools. Historical development of spatial reasoning can be followed from prehistoric verbal spatial orientation (geographical names), maps era, GIS, spatial databases, web maps and web visualizations era to Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). SDI is making platform for development of new spatial reasoning approaches. Each generation of geospatial tools is influencing spatial reasoning, making society more spatially enabled and rising level of spatial literacy.
