EXPLORING THE INTERFACES AMONG CIVIL ENGINEERING AND GEODESY – THE PROFESSIONALS' POINT OF VIEW

There are lot of interfaces among civil engineering and geodesy. Two disciplines share the same engineering background and their body of knowledge interferes remarkably. The education processes contain the similarities in modules, and some of them are provided by each other. The system of professional chambers and other professional bodies is similar, and all that is overlapped with common legislative environment. Civil engineering project activities are based on data from cadastre and any activity at the construction site is followed by geodetic survey and measurement that can be for its complexity the subject of particular engineering challenge. The professionals from two fields cooperate in everyday activities and take each other as a matter of fact. However, the question is how we know each other beyond the common activities, how we are happy with our professional relations, do we have any suggestions for improvement of cooperation and what are the differences and similarities in perception of each other. This paper will summarize and characterize the contact areas among two professional fields, as well as present the results of research based on semi-structured interview on mutual perception of two professions. The interviews will be done with experts in both branches working at different positions within public institutions and private companies both civil engineering and geodetic. The goal of the research is to enable the better understanding of both fields and to improve the cooperation of these side by side existing professions.
