FLEXIBILITY OF COATED KNITTED TEXTILES
Flexibility is an important characteristic of textile materials, particularly those intended for the production of clothing. By coating flexibility is reduced, and potentially limits the use of textile. Here is studied which parameters of knitted substrate influences flexibility of the coated fabrics. Seven knitted fabrics of different characteristics, suitable for coating and production of protective clothing were selected. They were coated under the same conditions with three different polyurethane layers. Flexibility is measured according to EN 1735:2003. After coating, the flexibility of textile materials decreases. Flexibility is higher in the direction of courses, than in the direction of wales of knitted fabrics and coated fabrics. With increase of thickness, mass and density of substrate, flexibility decreases in the direction of courses and wales. Flexibility of coated knitted fabrics, in the direction of courses, is possible to predict, with good reliability, from the thickness of knitted fabrics using the linear regression models.
