Monitoring Croatian policies to promote gender equality in politics.
When it comes to discrimination on the basis of gender and ethnicity, it is important to note that, despite the existence of appropriate laws, many areas that are essential to the progress of a democratic society remain marginalized. This is the main criticism of the present efforts to achieve complete equality. Political parties are responsible for the selection of candidates and for creating the structure of parliament. However, women and ethnic minorities, especially those coming from rural areas with a lower level of education, will always be under-represented.
