Ultrastructure Properties of jejunal vili of pigs fed with the suppliment from button mushroom Agaricus bisporus

In order to justify investigation of alternative strategies for the control and prevention of enteric infection in farm animals in intensive farming ( VIP project : 17/11/2012) in this study we examined the effect of supplement of Agaricus bisporus on the ultrastructure of jejunal villi in pigs in a controlled farm conditions . A total of 14 crossbred pigs (Swedish Landrace x Yorkshire), females and castrates, uniform body weight of about 7 kg, at the age of 28 to 56 days were used in this experiment. The dietary groups were controled, one group feed by basal diet and the other group with diets containing 1% dry supplement of Agaricus bisporus from the commercial cultivation of GEA Ltd. Zagreb. 28th day of the experiment, two pigs from each group were euthanised in accordance with the "Directive for the Pritection of Vertebrate Animals used for Experimental and Other Purposes " ( 86/609/EEC ) and jejunal tissue were obtained. Ultrastructure of jejunal villi were visualized by electron microscope type SEM Tescan Mira3 FEG (Center for Forensic Investigations, Research and Expertise “Ivan Vučetić”, Zagreb, Croatia). There was no visible damage in jejunal villi of animal fed with supplement of Agaricus bisporus. Results of this research indicated protetctive effects of Agaricus bisporus on intestinal vili and provides useful information to allow the design of future experiments aimed at potential role of Agaricus bisporus in modeling prevention of enteric infection.
