Adult-child interaction and child autonomy
Autonomy (independence in person's thinking and behaviour) as opposed to heteronomy (dependence and obedience,i.e.compliance with the hierarchy structures) is a value consistent to interactional and constructive theories of development and learning. Such autonomy presupposes inner regulation of person's (real and potentional) behaviour. Autonomy is at the same time the fundamental value in democtratic societes. This paper present contemporary theories of child autonomy with the ephasis on the social adult-chil interaction as a context of the development of that autonomy. During our research the adult-child interation was observed in the dyadic situations of learning and play. The sources of new konowledge about continuitiy/discontinuity of the child autonomy development are the identified stes of adult (parents, teachers) and pre-shool child behaviour (between 4,5 nd 6 years of age) and their observed reciprocity. The research resulsts point to the fact that the social and cognitive co-ordination between adults and children is the basic precondition for the development oc child autonomy.
