When and how the sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) become juvenile
The sea bass and larva development were studied emphasing ontogeny during the process of metamorphosis. The changes in growth rate with respect to the length of both embryo and larva were found to be best described by Gompertz-type curve. The time from the beginning to the end of metamorphosis was analised and discussed in relation to change in growth trends and rates. The appearance of typical juvenile structures such as fin differentation, scalation, change in body proportions and general fish behavior was also taken into consideration.
