Term human placenta related to the age of pregnant woman
Placental villi, perivillous fibrinoid and intervillous space of normal term human placenta were examined morphologically and quantitativelly in pregnant women of different ages.30 human placentas were divided in two groups: a) placentas of pregnant women aged 20-35 years, andb) placentas of pregnant women aged 35-45 years. The volume density of terminal villi in examined placentas didn, t differ significantly.Placentas of younger pregnant women have significantly higher volume density (p<0.001)) and absolute volume (p<0.001) of other villi. Placentas of older pregnant women have significantly higher volume density of perivillous fibrinoid (p< 0.02) and intervillous space (p<0.05).These results suggest placental capacity of morphological adaptation on factors that decrease materofetal exchange.
