To reduce fatal injuries

By the year 2003 the number of people killed in a 100 000 inhabitants should be reduced from the current 14 to 12, by the end of 2005. to 11 and by the end of 2010. to 8 which is close to the European goal. Extra activities: - Young drivers the standard of training will improve and same changes to the legal regulations will enable the introduction of temporary driver's licence, and same other restrictedness for young drivers. - Alcohol further research should be made about the presence of drugs and alcohol in traffic and develop necessary measures. The number of people involved in traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol should be reduced from 6% to 3%, and the number of people killed from 17% to 9%. - Safety belt - we should achieve 90% use (in accordance to the proposal of the International organisation for prevention in traffic), keeping in mind that 85% of the drivers should use the belt by the end of 2003. - Short light during daytime - The use of short lights during daytime should be regulated by changing the laws, but in practice. The use of headlights under poor weather conditions should be 100%, in normal circumstances 80%. Our programme consists of other activities, including: higher respect for traffic lights, control over the distance between cars in driving and we the do our best so that our laws should agree with the ones of other European countries. The reduction of the number of people killed on road on the whole, in Croatia 73 381 traffic accidents occurred, killing 655 people and injuring 20 501 people (4497 had serious injures). The number of traffic accidents, compared to the last year, is bigger by 6.7%, but the number of fatal accidents is smaller by 1.9%. The number of fatalities gets lower from year to year and the current number or almost smaller than the number in 1990, when 1360 people were killed on roads.
