Morphological characteristics of prospective alpine skiers
The aim of the investigation was to establish the morphological status of perspective, promising alpine skiers in Croatia and to evaluate their morphotype. The investigation was carried out on sample of 17 males, aged 15- 17 years. 17 anthropometric variables and the Heath-Carter anthropometric somatotype method were applied. The anthropometric variables were selected to completely cover the morphological status of the subjects, and the measurements were carried out in accordance with the standards stated in International Biological Program. The obtained data were analysed according to the usual procedures for determination of the basic descriptive statistic parameters. It was established that it was a selected sample which was somewhat taller (177.0 cm) and heavier (67.3 kg) than normal population, with higher circular dimensions of the body, but the quantity of subcutaneous adipose tissue was significantly smaller than with normal population. According to the Heath-Carter method young skiers were mesoectomorphic (I=2.37+0.48 ; II=3.79+0.89 ; III=3.13+1.25).
