Flow cytometry detection of signaling molecules and ABCB1 in AML
Our results confirm the published data on higher frequency of FLT3-ITD positivity in more mature AMLs (promyelocytic and monocytic form). It is known that P-gp expression and activity is associated with CD34 expression, so reverse association between P-gp and FLT3-ITD could be foreseen. Surprisingly, although some reports state FLT3-ITD signal is transduced downstream by Akt molecule, we found no evidence of that. Further analysis of signaling pathways activation with regard to of clinical characterization and patient’s survival and outcomes might contribute to the definition of novel prognostic markers in AML.
