Decline of Medieval Urban Symbols of Power: Tower Houses in Trogir (Croatia)
An image of any medieval town implies high defence walls and towers rising above them. Southern prospect of modern Trogir still shows the medieval city wall with battlement and two square towers in front of them. The old town maps and vedute (city views) , as well as historic texts witness, however, the existence of three more towers that had been attached to the city walls. The evidence led to an investigation about the processes that made those high structures disappear, based on the field studies of medieval residential architecture and the archival sources.
