Treatment and definitions of the terms geographical name, exonym and endonym in various Croatian sources
The aim of the paper is to refer to the treatment, defi nitions and meanings of those termini technici in the Croatian language that are frequently used in professional, scientifi c and other sources when referring to geographical names. It is about the correlation between the terms geographical name, toponym, exonym, endonym, foreign geographical name, domesticated name, Croatized name, adapted (adjusted) name, adopted (accepted) name, traditional name, and translated (rendered) name, with an emphasis on the terms geographical name, exonym and endonym. A brief review of 25 sources showed that if some other terms semantically equal or similar to exonyms are used, it is almost certainly one of these four: foreign geographical name, traditional name, domesticated name or (more rarely) Croatized name.
