Adaptive Intelligent Tutoring Systems in the Context of Usability Requirements
Improving the usability of computer systems is perhaps the most important goal of current research in the field of human-computer interaction. Our research is concentrated on usable, human-centered, adaptive user interfaces for intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs), which are a generation of computerized educational systems intended to improve the process of learning and teaching by allowing human teacher emulation. By inclusion of adaptability in the respective user interface an ITS would unquestionably gain in efficiency, effectiveness and especially usability. Consequently, these considerations need to be made explicit in the definition of ITS usability requirements. This paper elaborates on some additional usability requirements, which arise from adding adaptability in an existing ITS.
