Two-dimensional Condensation of Camphor and its Derivatives on Au(111) Electrodes
The adsorption of camphor and its derivatives (borneol, norcamphor and camphor-10-sulfonic acid) from perchlorate and sulfate solutions onto reconstructed Au(111) has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and capacity measurements. It will be shown that in both supporting electrolytes the organic compounds form two-dimensional condensed phases. In the case of camphor, phase formation on reconstructed and unreconstructed Au(111) and on reconstructed Au(100)-(hex) is compared. The influence of sulfate adsorption on the stability range of the condensed phases and the oxidation behavior of the organic compounds are discussed.
