How to prevent soil compaction and erosion by environmentally sound tillage

The study aims to evaluate impact of different tillage treatments on soil conservation and compaction on Stagnic Luvisol. Changes in climatic conditions in both possible directions – increase or decrease of annual precipitation and mean annual temperature, will actualize the issue of soil conservation by tillage. I order to estimate the effect of the current climatic conditions, soil loss and compaction were measured as penetration resistance on Stagnic Luvisol on six different tillage treatments and the following crop rotation: maize – soybean – winter wheat – oilseed rape – double crop (barley + soybean). The highest erosion in the 20-year period was recorded in the control treatment, following by the treatment that involved ploughing and sowing up and down the slope. Lower soil losses were recorded in no-tillage treatments and treatments with ploughing and sowing across the slope. No tillage recorded higher resistance in top soil but lower on the edge of 30 cm. Treatments with plowing to 30 cm recorded presents of impermeably layer below edge of primary tillage. Results indicate that since soil water content and penetration resistance were adversely affected, deep tillage should be applied continuously on a Stagnic Luvisol, under semihumid to humid climate.
