The relation between structural social capital and social entrepreneurship desirability and feasibility
The paper investigates which types of structural social capital are associated with social entrepreneurship desirability and social entrepreneurship feasibility. The research was performed on a sample of 512 business students from five countries: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, FYR Macedonia and Slovenia. Based on the literature, the structural social capital included both social sector contacts and business sector contacts. Our analysis showed the importance of family members and friends who are active members of non-profit organizations, as well as the importance of attending religious services, for both social entrepreneurship desirability and social entrepreneurship feasibility. Knowing the entrepreneurial environment and having a social entrepreneur among family and/or friends is positively associated with social entrepreneurship feasibility. This research also looked into possible gender differences and found that women perceived social entrepreneurship as more desirable in comparison with men. There was no gender difference between men and women regarding social entrepreneurship feasibility.
