Flax fibers – candidate for replacement of E-glass fibers in composites for structural application
Technical flax fibers planted in Croatia were investigated as candidate to replace glass fibers reinforcements in structural composites with better environmental performance. Development of composite materials involves investigation in: characterization of flax and glass fibers, roving yarns and woven reinforcements ; preparation of flax roving yarn and woven reinforcement, and unsaturated polyester resin based composites reinforced with flax and/or glass bidirectional woven reinforcements ; evaluation of mechanical properties of polymeric composites through tensile, flexural and interlaminar shear strength tests.
