Indirect Evaluation of a Silent Vessel Passive Detection Structure
The acoustic signal, of the so-called silent vessel, is a sum of the extremely weak zero mean Gaussian stochastic process with a finite variance and a finite number of sine waves with approximately stable amplitudes. Also it is assumed that the deep-sea ambient noise is the zero mean Gaussian stochastic process with a finite variance too. To evaluate the structure performance for the passive detection of the silent vessel we have to consider the probability density function of the reduced likelihood ratio for both statistical hypotheses: H0 and H1. The indirect evaluation measure is now the so-called deflection coefficient that is the function of the difference between statistical expectations of the two possible probability density functions.
