Experimental research of concrete and precast concrete floor blocks made with crushed bricks and roof tiles
The paper gives an overview of the current crushed bricks and roof tiles concrete mixture areas of application, aims and possible limitations relating to the research of crushed bricks and roof tiles concrete usage in new construction applications. Requirements that need to be met in order for the crushed bricks and roof tiles to be used as concrete aggregate in new precast concrete floor block systems are listed below. Preliminary experimental research of the concrete components and concrete with the crushed bricks and roof tiles aggregate was conducted and the design of the experiment on which the research had been conducted was described. A selection of the acceptable concrete mixtures was made based on experiments and a mathematical model. Based on the optimum mixture research results, a single mixture with the best properties in fresh and hardened state with regard to possible floor block use was selected. Floor blocks with crushed bricks and roof tiles as aggregate were cast and tested. Their characteristics at room temperature and residual characteristics after high temperature exposure were tested, as required by the HRN EN 15037-2:2009 norm: Floor systems constructed from beams and blocks – 2: Concrete blocks. The conclusion was made that manufacturing filler blocks for precast floor constructions with enhanced fireproof feature as a result of defining the crushed bricks and roof tiles as aggregate is possible.
