From manuscript to printed book
The emergence of print culture and transition from manuscript to printed book taken place in the late fifteenth century is considered to be of a great importance in the history of written word. The impact that manuscripts made to early prints and vice versa, the impact that early prints made to manuscripts written after the invention of printing is visible in the organization of the text, page layout and grapholinguistic features. In this case study, the rules of that transition will be shown from the point of the organization of the text and its appropriation. The examples of selected Croatian manuscripts and early prints and its fragments written in three scripts – Glagolitic, Latin and Cyrillic, and three languages – Old Church Slavonic, Latin and Croatian, will be shown.
