Time-resolved techniques with ultrashort pulses in examination of specific vibrational states of matter
Femtosecond Pump Probe Optical Spectroscopy is a method for studying dynamics of low energy excitations and interaction strengths between different degrees of freedom (electrons, lattice, spin) in advanced solids. It is a pump-probe technique, where a pump laser pulse first excites the material into a non-equilibrium state and a subsequent probe laser pulse probes its relaxation to the ground state. The relaxation is observed through the measurement of small changes in the optical refectivity DeltaR/R or trans- mittance DeltaT/T, as a function of a time- delay between laser pulses.
