Optimization of cutting parameters in end-milling of 42CrMo4 steel by applying Taguchi method and the Grey relational analysis
In this study, Taguchi method is shown in combination with the Grey relational analysis which is applied in cutting parameters optimization during end-milling of 42CrMo4 steel, in order to reach minimum value of surface roughness, and maximum quantity of removed material in unit of time. Parameters which are being optimized are cutting speed (vc), depth of cut (ae), feed rate per tooth (ft) as well as different processing conditions: dry machining, conventional emulsion cooling and cooling by cold compressed air. Based on given input parameters, with the help of Taguchi L9 orthogonal array and Grey relational analysis, optimal combination of cutting parameters by which set requests are being reached is obtained. Furthermore, analysis of variance (ANOVA) is applied for recognition of the most influencing parameters on optimal solution in the process of machining. Taguchi method combined with the Grey relational analysis is satisfactorily used in multiple criteria optimization of end-milling.
