Evaluating Holocene environmental changes using magnetic and geochemical proxies of marine sediments of Novigradsko more catchment
Magnetic susceptibility (MS) measurements and chemical analysis of marine and soil sediments are widely used as a proxy for paleao- environmental and palaeo-climatic variations. Chemical analysis of elements and multitude of their ratios combined with magnetic properties of soils enable a high degree of certainty in the interpretation of data variation. Magnetic record of a sediment sequence can reflect changes in sediment source, postdepositional transformation (MAHER, 2011), or anthropogenic impact (DEARING, 1999), and distinct between marine sediments, soils and pedogenic intervals (BUGGLE, et al., 2014).
