Humanization of Conditions for Education and Learning of Preschool Children as the Framework for Curriculum Development - Croatian experience
A curriculum represents the common official educational concept for the entire country, prescribed by official documents which contain the basic ideas and principles for education of pre-school children. In our country, these documents emphasize the principles of freedom, diversity of organization and execution of educational process in kindergartens, and the focus on developing the children's competence. The ways in which certain kindergartens manage to adapt the official curriculum to their specific context, culture, and their traditional environment differ greatly. Humanization of the spatial, material, and social environment of the kindergartens is a result of joint efforts for studying and improving the educational practice in them. It represents the framework for developing pre-school curriculum based on listening and acknowledging the children and their different potentials and competence. It is aimed at stimulating the autonomy and emancipation of children and developing their critical opinion and self-motivated learning based on its own dynamics and self-regulatory power.
