Stirling Engine CCHP Plant Fueled by Biomass and Biogas from Biowaste and Waste Water Treatment
Biogas micro cogeneration plants with gas engines, which offer many advantages within the framework of waste water management and biological waste as energy sources, are popular today. However, such technological solutions are burdened with low efficiency during periods when there is no need for heat energy, and discontinued operation in the case of limited digester substrate reserves. This article describes and theoretically investigates the concept design of a trigeneration plant based on the operation of the Stirling engine and absorption cooling, which uses gas obtained through anaerobic digestion of waste waters and biological waste (food and other organic waste) and biomass (pellets or wood chips) for fuel. Furthermore, article describes the plant's mathematical model and results of analysis, as well as a review of the current potential for commercial production and guidelines for further technology development. Analysis results suggest that the system provides the possibility of electrical and heat energy production and cooling with high efficiency in all operating conditions.
