Amateur Theatre Songs of Burgenland Croats (Austria) : Towards the Preservation of Ethnic Identity
The paper concentrates on Croats living in the central part of Burgenland in Austria, more specifically, on one of the aspects of music life in the village of Mjenovo (Kroatisch Minihof). Choice has been made from a very rich repertoire of songs performed in amateur theathre plays during the 20th century. Their origins, manner of acceptance and recreation as well as their further life within the Mjenovo community have undergone considerable chage. For that reason, two periods - the 1940s and the 1990s - are compared.
