A felvilágosult abszolutizmus és a báni méltósság. Bevezetés a horvát-szlavón rendek politikájába 1756-1790 / Prosvijećeni apsolutizam i banska služba: uvod u politiku hrvatsko-slavonskih staleža (1756-1790)
The paper explores the role of banus, governor of Croatia-Slavonia, in the attempts of Habsburg rulers to enforce political and social reforms in Croatia-Slavonia in the second part of the 18th century. The focus of the research is set on the changed role of banus, especially the impact of that change on political positions of Croatian-Slavonian Estates at Hungarian Diet in 1790. It is argued that, although the Diet in 1790 represented the starting point of many Croatian and Hungarian disputes in the “long” 19th century, the loss of political power of banus resulted with stronger political ties between Croatian and Hungarian Estates which is to be regarded as a reaction to Habsburg absolutist rule in the decades prior to 1790.
