Advanced electromagnetic-thermal dosimetry methods for the human exposure to high frequency electromagnetic fields

This paper reviews certain electromagnetic-thermal dosimetry analysis methods developed by the authors and applied to the exposure of the human eye and brain respectively, exposed to HF radiation [1-3]. The eye exposure assessment is based on the solution of the Helmholtz equation via the hybrid boundary element/finite element method (BEM/FEM). The brain exposure is analysed by solving the set of coupled surface integral equations (SIEs) via the Method of Moments (MoM). The obtained maximal values of SAR are compared to the exposure limits proposed by INCIRP. Furthermore, the related temperature increase in the eye and brain is obtained by solving the corresponding stationary Pennes bio-heat transfer equation. The Pennes equation is handled by means of the finite element method (FEM). The maximal value of the calculated temperature increase in both cases is found to be less than 0.1 °C.
