Case study of implementing work based learning in IT management service course
Key to build a successful learning process is identification of various factors that can influence students’ ability to gain and/or improve desired competences. Consequently, new learning methods are based on the premise of enabling competency through performance. One of innovative learning techniques that is marching in traditional education process is work- based learning (WBL), which is commonly described as the combination of self-knowledge, the expertise in practice, and a formal knowledge in solving the real-world problems. In this paper we present implementation of WBL in undergraduate course IT service management. Students were encouraged to “work” in virtual business firms to simulate process of developing, promoting and delivering an innovative and creative IT service. In order to validate introduced methods, students’ perception of competences and skills gained or improved during the course was investigated, as well as theirs’ estimation of course delivery.
