Is the eta-eta' complex an ordinary two-state system?
If the pseudoscalar mesons eta and eta’ form an ordinary two-state system, it is impossible that their calculated masses cross, irrespective of how one varies the parameters. It seems that this does happen in some recent theoretical approaches to the eta and eta’ mesons, but this then contradicts the anticrossing theorem of von Neumann and Wigner.
eta; eta' pseudoscalar meson; two-level system; anticrossing theorem
