HYDRIDING PROPERTIES OF A Ti-Cr BASED HYDROGEN STORAGE ALLOY
A Ti-Cr hydrogen storage alloy (Ti0.44Zr0.56Cr0.86Fe0.68Ni0.21Mn0.25Cu0.03) easily absorbs and desorbs hydrogen below the room temperature. However, there are few reports of the detailed kinetic property. When the surface of LaNi5 is covered with oxide or hydroxide layers, the rate controlling step changes between the dissociation of hydrogen molecules on thin layers and hydrogen permeation through grown oxide layers. Such rate controlling step becomes changed by additive elements to the alloy. Surface contamination modifies hydriding mechanism with respect to hydride nucleation and growth. In this study, we investigated the effect of surface contamination of the Ti-Cr alloy on the hydriding property at temperatures lower than 298 K.
