Workshop - Affordable 3D scanning and 3D printing
3D scanning and in the first place 3D printing is not new discovery, but on the contrary, it is more than 30 years old technology. Until recently it was reserved for small group of professionals (mainly mechanical engineers) and was unavailable. In 2007 RepRap project was founded by Adrian Bowyer whose idea was to make replicating machine, use ecological materials, and to make all this available free of charge. RepRap was actually a very simple 3D printing device, very cheap and affordable. Under the impact of RepRap project recent development in open source and commercial desktop 3D printer is undergoing. Desktop 3D printers became affordable and today they are being used by various professions and other home users and enthusiast. Printing 3D objects requires certain skill of modeling 3D objects in computer. But there is also an option to 3D scan the existing objects and with growing interest in that field some new 3D scanning solutions were developed, like scanning with structural light. Workshop is about introduction to 3D scanning and 3D printing with affordable devices. Participants will try to 3D scan, optimize 3D model in computer, and prepare it for printing on 3D printer. Finally the result will be materialized on 3D printer. Objective of the workshop is to show affordable and easy to use technology to general population and interested users.
