Masseter muscle inflammation induces changes in expression of IL-1ß and KCNQ2 ion channels in ipsilateral TRG
Voltage gated ion channels regulate membrane potential in sensory neurons, and voltage gated potassium channels play important part in various pain conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in expression level of KCNQ2 ion channel and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in trigeminal ganglion (TRG) neurons after bilateral masseter muscle allodynia induced by unilateral masseter inflammation. he significant changes in KCNQ2 and IL-1β mRNA levels in ipsilateral TRG but not in contralateral suggest that changes at level of primary neurons are specific to inflammatory pain condition.
