National Pride and Ethnic Prejudice in Multicultural Contexts

Stating from the notion that in a different multicultural setting, where ethnic constitution varies in different proportions, in which the culture/ethnicity/nation is attributed in a different way, and where the relations towards ethnic groups are conducted differently, this lecture aims to answer the question: Do national feelings influence public attitudes towards some ethnic groups? The analyses of the empirical data collected within the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), in combination with the results obtained by scholarly research project Multiculturalism Policy Index (Banting and Kymlicka, 2016), aim to determine: 1) the level of national pride and ethnic prejudice in the contexts characterised by different level of multiculturalism ; 2) the correlation between national pride and ethnic prejudice in different multicultural settings ; and 3) the possible determinants of high/low national pride and ethnic prejudice.
