Effect of mass on the behavior of concrete columns under seismic load
The effect of mass on the behavior of the structure under earthquake load is firstly discussed. Then, the effect of the mass on the top of the small-scale cantilever concrete columns on their behavior and limit bearing capacity was investigated with a shake-table. A set of successive horizontal base accelerograms with increasing maximal accelerations up to the collapse of the columns was applied. It was concluded that the size of the mass has a great effect on the limit bearing capacity of the columns, but this effect is not linearly proportional to the mass size. At the end, the numerical model for the static and dynamic analysis of the planar concrete structure is briefly presented and verified with the performed experimental test. It was concluded that the numerical model can be useful in a seismic analysis of practical planar concrete structures, but further validation is necessary.
