Seasonal variability of near-ground Bora turbulence
Based on 3-level high frequency Bora measurements, applicability of the logarithmic law and the power law with respect to seasonal variability is analyzed. Generally, the power law and the logarithmic law fit the data well. The most fascinating finding is the fact that although commonly presented as constant, the power-law exponent takes on a wide variety of values, suggesting a rural-like velocity profile for larger wind velocities and an urban-like velocity profile for smaller wind velocities. When compared with the values proposed in international wind standards, turbulence length scales related to lateral and vertical velocity fluctuations are much larger than the standard values, both in the wintertime and in the summertime. At the same time, turbulence intensity and longitudinal turbulence length scales generally agree well with recommended values in both seasons observed. In general, near-ground Bora turbulence indicates similar characteristics in the winter- and summertime.
