Influence of annealing at 900 °C on microstructure of Cu-Al-Mn shape memory ribbons
The Cu-8.96%Al-7.08%Mn (wt.%) shape memory ribbons was casted by free jet melt spinner technique. Shape memory properties can be greatly enhanced by controlling microstructural factors such as grain size by thermomechanical treatments. In the present paper the results of the microstructural investigation in ribbons before and after heat treatment (900 °C/30'/WQ) was presented. Microstructural analysis was performed by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) along with EDS analysis and DSC technique. It was found a two- phase (martensite+α) structure in ribbons in as- cast state. Also, the martensite microstructure with sporadicaly α phase particles was observed in heat treated state alloy.
