Sociosexuality and some aspects of sexual risk behavior among college students
The purpose of this study was to investigate sexual risk behavior among college students and its relation with sociosexuality. Participants: 100 college students. Sociosexuality was measured by the Sociosexual Orientation Inventory. Sexual risk behavior was assesssed with numerous questions about students' sexual experience and attitudes. Just 1% of sexually active students always use condoms, 11% never, and the others occasionally. 62% engaged in sex under alcohol. Students who have an unrestricted sociosexuality have more sexual partners (r = .58 p< 0.01), rank higher possibility of getting STD (r = .45 p< 0.01) and become sexually active early (r = -.37 p< 0.01). „Restricted“ prefer to have an emotional bond with a partner before sex occurs, and more often use condoms and other contraceptives (r = .28 p> 0.01). Further intentions would be to develop useful prevention workshops at the Students' Counseling Centre through which students would become more aware about STD and their own sexual risk behaviour.
