Attitudinal, motivational, and behavioural correlates of ethical leadership in healthcare teams

Research results show that follower perceptions of supervisors’ ethical leadership are beneficial for both organisation and employee. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between healthcare team members’ perception of ethical leadership of their supervisors in relation to team members’ attitudes and behaviours: work engagement, psychological empowerment, organisational citizenship behaviours, trust, perceived group effectiveness and cohesion in work teams. Results confirm that ethical leadership is positively related to all desirable team members’ attitudinal, motivational and behavioural outcomes. The potential consequences of ethical leadership on health- care team functioning and relevant human resource practises in health-care institutions are discussed.

ethical leadership, trust in leadership, work and organisational attitudes, health care teams, inter-professional collaboration
