Molecular identification of Brucella melitensis from Isolates of Human Origin in 3 Cantons in FBIH
Brucellosis is a zoonotic, chronic and infectious disease, which is caused by bacteria of genus Brucella. Of 11 today known species of Brucella, six of them: B. melitensis, B. abortus, B. suis, B. canis, B. ceti, B. pinnipedialis and B. inopinata are confirmed to be zoonotic. For people, certainly the most pathogenic is B. melitensis. In this study, using classical bacteriology methods, we processed 23 human blood culture samples originating from reported brucellosis cases from 3 cantons in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Brucellosis have been confirmed in 21 samples (91, 3%). Using BRU-UP-BRU-LOW primers we identified the BCSP-31 genome in these isolates which confirms that Brucella sp. is in question, while using AMOS PCR and Bruce ladder we found presence of the B. melitensis in the isolates.
