Analysis of possible gas distribution system efficiency (load factor) increase
Large variations in gas supply during the day/night and winter/summer periods have adverse impact on gas distribution system load factor, cause increase in distribution costs and additionally burden the gas price. All energy distribution networks, including the gas distribution network, are characteristic for particularly high investment costs. The investments have to be justified through high network load factor. Unlike fuel efficiency, the load factor of infrastructural facilities has rarely been analyzed. The present paper focuses on gas distribution system load factor and offers suggestions for its increase through gas application in heat and power generation in cogeneration and micro-cogeneration plants (in hospitals, schools, small businesses, households), for vehicles (compressed natural gas or fuel cells), and for cooling (particularly in the coastal region).
