Computer Vision Station Prototype for Biscuit Tiles Quality Control
Quality inspection in ceramic tiles industry is usually done on ceramic tiles while biscuit and crude tiles are often not visually inspected for defects. Visual inspection of crude or/and biscuit tiles provides opportunities for numerous savings, including energy, time and other costs. A prototype computer vision station (CVS) for real-time biscuit tile defects detection is developed on Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology Osijek within the Tetracom FP7 project “CVS - Computer Vision Station Prototype for Biscuit Tiles Quality Control”. The developed prototype consists of hardware (LED light system, area-scan camera, parallel processing unit, digital I/O interface and tile arrival sensor) and MFC based GUI application with algorithms implemented in C++ language using OpenCV and Nvidia CUDA libraries. Edge and corner defects detection algorithms are based on contour tracing while surface defects detection algorithms are based on statistical comparison with template. Preliminary testing results on 520 biscuit tiles show that CVS correctly classifies 98.65% of tested tiles.
