Acute phase proteins in children with urinary tract infections
We measured serum amyloid A protein (SAA), C- reactive protein (CRP), alpha 1- antichymotripsine (ACT) and alpha 1 acid glycopreotein (AGP) concentrations during seven consecutive days in 22 hospitalized children with urinary tract infections caused by E.coli. Of all the acute ohase proteins investigated, SAA seems to be the best marker for antimicrobial therapy monitoring in children with urinary tract infections caused by E.coli. It has the highest amplitude, the shortest half-life and, together with CRP, the quickest response to microbial infection and therapy applied.
