Vibroactivated Zeolite in Cotton Flame Retardancy
The government regulations have been the driving force for developing flame retardant finishes for textile, to improve its performance and to reduce the negative impact on the environment. In this paper micro-particles of natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) in the role of carriers have been applied to the cotton fabrics in different baths for achieving high efficiency by better adsorption of flame retardants from the baths. Zeolites applied are produced by the newest vibroactivated processing in the European patented machine which results in particles less than 10 m. Vibroactivated zeolites were added in the baths with urea/ammonium hydrogen phosphate/waterglass for achieving environmental-friendly cotton flame retardancy. Burning behaviour was determined by Limiting Oxygen Index. For better understanding the changes in cotton structure under the heat conditions thermogravimetric method and micro combustion calorimeter were used. Synergistic effect between urea/ammonium hydrogen phosphate/water glass and zeolite has been calculated.
