While tourism offers substantial economic benefits for many countries, regions and communities, its fast expansion has, also, harmful ecological and socio-cultural consequences. The devastation of natural resources and destruction of the environment are often connected with tourism. In the 1990s the concept 'sustainable tourism' had begun to be discussed immensely, and it includes management approaches and means created to improve the integration of tourist development and the protection of the natural environment. Promoting sustainable development of tourism is significant for the enhancement of socio- economic benefits and the reduction of negative impacts on the environment. It is well-known that the majority of tourist zones maintain their relatively high patterns of consumption of the environment and that it is becoming a serious problem for developing countries and regions without suitable means for the protection of their cultural and natural resources from the pressures of growing tourism. It has become clear: not only will uncontrolled expansion of tourism lead to the degradation of environment but the destruction of the environment is also a serious threat to the further development of tourism.
