Smart energy harvesting device for AC machines

Today, fault diagnosis and monitoring of the rotating machines have an important role in the modern industry. Because of the safety and reliability of the energy process it is necessary to provide measurement of various numbers of quantities and also the early fault detection. Beside classical measurements that are performed on the machine non-rotating parts, nowadays measurements on the rotating parts are of key interest. When performing measurements on machine rotating parts, there are several issues that are limiting these measurements: equipment power supply, wireless measurement transfer, sensor implementation, centrifugal forces... This paper presents new invention, that solves two important issues when performing rotor measurements. Smart energy harvesting device, harvests magnetic field pulsation within an air-gap and ensures enough energy for powering various measurement equipment installed on rotor. Also the same voltage that is induced in harvesting device, is used for diagnostic purposes (armature winding inter-turn short circuit detection).
