Dynamic Behaviour of Concrete Arch Bridges on the Adriatic Coast
This study analyzes the behaviour and state of five large reinforced concrete arch bridges on the Croatian Adriatic Coast – Sibenik Bridge, Pag Bridge prior to and after the rehabilitation, Krk I Bridge, Krk II Bridge and Maslenica Bridge. All these bridges, except for the Maslenica Bridge, were designed for lower traffic volumes, smaller vehicles, slower speeds and lighter loads than are common today. Also, they do not exibit safety sufficient for seismic loading as defined in current regulations. In addition, inadequate bearing system design, poor maintenance and environmental factors caused their deterioration. Rehabilitation and strengthening have already been performed to some degree on most of them. Detailed dynamic analyses have been carried out in order to determine reliability, deficiencies and advantages of each one of these bridges and identify necessary repairs.
