Design and Application of Elastomeric Bearings for Reinforced Concrete Bridges

The paper discusses design and application of elastomeric bearings on concrete girder and arch bridges. Special attention is given to the influence of the elastomeric bearings on the dynamic behaviour and safety of the entire bridge structure. Detailed dynamic and seismic analyses of a large number of highway concrete girder bridges and several large span concrete arch bridges in Croatia were performed over the last several years for this purpose. The analyses included full-scale testing of all bridges. The results of this research are presented on the example of one girder bridge – Drava I bridge, and one of the largest concrete arch bridges in the world – Krk bridge.
