Quality analysis of the croatian height transformation model: case study city of Slavonski Brod

In accordance with introduction into operational use of the new Croatian height reference system – HVRS71, the Croatian height transformation model – HTMV was created. Height transformation model allows direct transformation of the points absolute height from the old Croatian height reference system – HVRS1875 to the new system HVRS71 and vice versa, preserving the quality of transformed data. Although, the transformation model has high level of so-called internal quality, his so-called external quality is of special and particular interest. It is especially important in urban areas, due to demanding construction, infrastructure, industrial and other purposes that are connected to high level of height accuracy. In the area of Slavonski Brod, which was selected as an appropriate testing area, a number of bench marks contained in both height reference systems was identified. These benchmarks are included in the city geometric levelling network and originally were not involved in the creation of height transformation model. Data on those benchmarks, i.e. elipsoidal position and absolute heights referred to the old and to the new height reference system, are independent from the transformation model creation and are of appropriate quality for the evaluation of the so-called external quality. In the process of identifying suitable bench marks special attention is given to the analysis of data that can be interpreted as a survey professional errors as well as so-called global or local spatial outliers. External quality of the height transformation model is expressed with standard deviation calculated from the differences between explicit empirical and related transformational values of the bench marks absolute height differences.
